AP Concentration Statements

Artist Statement for concentration

These are the questions asked by the A.P. board…
Use art specific language.  Refer to specific works.

1.    What is the central idea of your concentration?

               2.    How does the work in your concentration demonstrate the exploration of your idea?  Please refer to specific images as examples.

Here is an example:

  1. The central idea of my concentration is the relationship between fashion, modern machines, and inventions that have revolutionized the creative process of making and designing outfits such as the sewing machine, its parts, and dress forms. I believe that both the artistic aspect of making fashion and the scientific component that is involved in designing machines build on each other.
  2. The work in my concentration demonstrates the exploration of my idea because it shows the relationship between fashion and the machines that aid in the making. For example, several of my paintings (such as images 26-30) I juxtaposed dress forms with gears. In these paintings the gears that are inside the form and have a tighter definition are symbolizing the mechanical process of making clothes today by showing the tools that are used more often in making clothing, while the background is more organic, uses loose lines to symbolize the innate, creative process that is involved in designing process of clothing creation.
